I am a cat lover, I just love cats, and I love the Savannah breed, but they are out of my price range, which makes me want to cry.   As more Savannah cats become popular, and in the homes across the USA, Will breeders lower the price  on these kittens, or cats?

I think I can speak for most breeders when I say my kittens prices aren't really based on being popular.

The Savannah's take so much additional care than a normal cat. First is the food they eat. Just one of my girls eat an average of $300.00 a month. I won't even begin the vitamins and the litter and all the rest of the care that goes into them.  :)

The next part is the higher generations usually only have a couple kittens in a litter. My girl just had 1 last litter. So they don't have many kittens.

I know myself and many other breeders do this because of the love for the breed and not really the money. Keep your eyes open, there are breeders out there that take payments. Check with the local rescues too. Many times it's difficult to re-home a savannah because when they bond with their family it's for life and when the cat has to rebond, it's difficult.  :)

Hi Connie:  As a fellow serious breeder I just want to say I support your philosophy and management practices for your cattery.   I think the average person has no clue what it takes to get first quality, healthy kittens.   Most of them seem to think all they have to do is buy a boy and a girl and voila!  they will be on the fast track to riches.   We should be so lucky!

Like you,  I spent a fantastic amount of money collecting the best breeding stock I could find and you're right---there are a lot of breeding Savannahs out there that should have been spayed/neutered long ago.   I got lucky--my F1 Savannah girl proved fertile and has had two healthy litters of outstanding kittens.    What most people don't know is how relatively few early generation Savannahs there are that are good representatives of the breed,  and fertile.

I can't imagine that these cats are ever going to be "cheap"  because of laws governing the keeping of foundation breeding stock getting more and more restrictive.   I live in Oregon---as of last January,  Servals are no longer legal in this state.   Other states will almost surely follow suit, it's just a matter of time.
